Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille is widely considered one of the most elegant vanillas on the market. It is a complex floral-gourmand that avoids being "cupcake-sweet" by using darker, woodier undertones. Top Notes: Mandarin Orange and Lychee Heart Notes: Dark Chocolate, Bitter Almond, Bulgarian Rose, and Violet Base Notes: Vanilla Absolute, Tonka Bean, Cedar, and White Musk. It opens with a faint, fruity brightness from the Lychee, but almost immediately dives into a dusty, high-end Dark Chocolate and Almond accord. Unlike a candy bar, this chocolate is powdery and dry. The Vanilla here is the star-its high quality vanilla bean rather than synthetic sugar. The florals (Rose and Violet) stay in the background, giving it a "perfumery" elegance so you don't just smell like a desert.
